Concept:

The existing restaurant is located in a heritage conservation area . The site was quite old and had not been fully renovated since 2012.

The new design concept consists of a full bar seating aligned with the kitchen which allows customers to watch the preparation of the freshly made Sushi, Japanese style. Inspired by the Japanese kintsugi philosophy of wabi-sabi - the art of "Perfection Through Imperfection",  the bench table features a cracking surface filled with brass repairs, believing there is always a beauty in the scars.

The space is inviting and welcoming through its neutral colour tones and bamboo panels for the wall which reflect the authentic Japanese lifestyle, with the existing concrete flooring visually contrasting with selected American oak furnishing. As the restaurant had a limited space, function and flow are also key to the design, with various social inclusive seating rearrangements so that the interior feels spacious and has achieved a delightful Japanese culture throughout the space.
